Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander baseball team stopped a seven-game losing skid with a 9-4 victory over Georgia College Friday evening.
Lander moved to 15-15 overall and 11-13 in the PBC while Georgia College drops to 14-13 and 12-12 in the PBC.
The offense for the Bearcats was constantly going, as four Bearcats had multi-hit games.
Lander scored eight of its nine runs in the first three innings.
Roury Glanton got Lander on the board in the bottom of the first with a deep drive over the left field fence for his 11th home run of the year.
Three more runs came across in the second inning for the Blue and Gold. Bradley Davis singled with two runners on to bring across one of his three RBI while Bo Richey followed up with a two-RBI triple to put Lander up 4-0. Richey is now tied with Glanton for the team lead in triples with three.
After the Bobcats got a run off a single, Lander responded with four runs in the third inning.
Glanton would come home to score on a passed ball for the first run of the inning while back-to-back-to-back singles from Ethan Wilder, Davis and Richey scored the other three runs to push the Bearcats ahead 8-1.
Another run would come to score for the Bobcats in the fourth while Davis countered with an RBI single in the fifth to make it 9-2.
Georgia College scored a single run in the sixth and eighth but couldn't get close enough to mount a comeback against the Bearcats.
Marshall Thompson was all the Bearcats needed pitching-wise, as the righty went all nine innings. Thompson allowed four runs on 12 hits while striking out 12. His season-high for strikeouts is 13 which he set on February 12 against Claflin.
Lander and Georgia College are set to battle in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon.
