Box Score GREENVILLE, S.C. – Going up against No. 12 North Greenville for a non-conference game at Fluor Field, the Bearcats fell 5-2 to the Crusaders.
Lander drops to 14-12 overall while North Greenville advances to 21-6.
North Greenville got on the board first in the top of the third to go up 3-0. After a hit batter and a walk put two runners on for the Crusaders, a pair of singles to left field was enough to bring home the three runs.
Lander responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning. Leading off, Junior Bo Richey bashed a triple to deep center field and eventually came home to score on a throwing error from North Greenville's shortstop that went out of play. North Greenville came back with a run of its own in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to score a runner from third to make it a 4-1 ball game.
Yet another RBI single for the Crusaders was enough to bring around a run in the top of the ninth to put North Greenville up 5-1.
In the bottom of the ninth Richey secured another triple, this time sending a pitch out to right field as he put himself in scoring position.
Later in the inning, freshman Ethan Wilder hit a ground ball to the shortstop to reach on a fielder choice and bring home Richey to make it 5-2.
Redshirt junior Davis Agle went two innings in the start where he gave up three runs on three hits while striking out three. Lander Used six arms in total against the Crusaders, with redshirt senior Praise Thorsen, redshirt junior Davis Cunningham and sophomore Bryce Jackson all dealing a scoreless inning of relief each.
The Bearcats return to Dolny Stadium this Friday and Saturday to host the Young Harris Mountain Lions.
