AUGUSTA, GA. – The Lander women's tennis team earned its third consecutive road win with a 6-1 victory over Augusta on Saturday.
Lander moves to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the PBC while Augusta drops to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the PBC.
The Bearcats started with a sweep of doubles with a 6-0 victory from the pair of senior Maria Rey and redshirt senior Eduarda Ferreira while senior Lindsey Wiggins and sophomore Roberta Armani won via forfeit.
Lander then went to work against the Jaguars in singles play. Lander picked up a win at no. 6 singles with the Jaguars not having someone to fill the spot. Up 2-0, Rey took the No. 4 singles 6-2,6-3, while Augusta would get a win at the no. 1 singles to make it a 3-1 match.
Freshman Chiara Gerbino would clinch the victory for the Bearcats with a 1-6,6-1,6-3 victory at the No. 2 singles spot. Armani took a 6-3,6-4 win at the No. 5 singles spot while sophomore Raquel Acco won 6-3,2-6,10-8 to give the Bearcats their 6-1 final score.
Lander stays on the road for its match as it travels to Limestone on April 1.
