FLORENCE, S.C. – After falling to Erskine on Friday, the Lander women's tennis team defeated Francis Marion 4-3 Saturday afternoon on the road.
Lander moves to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the PBC while Francis Marion drops to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the PBC.
The Bearcats started off taking an early 1-0 lead over the Patriots with a 2-1 victory in doubles play. Sophomore Raquel Acco and freshman Chiara Gerbino won the no. 2 doubles flight 6-1 while freshman Shea Connelly and sophomore Roberta Armani took the no. 3 doubles flight 6-4.
Lander then saw wins at the No.1,4 and 5 singles flight to secure the win over Francis Marion. Redshirt senior Eduarda Ferreira won 6-2,6-4 at the no. 1 singles spot, senior Maria Rey battled 6-2, 6(4)-7(7),6-3 to take the no. 4 singles flight while Armani won in three sets 4-6,6-2,6-0 at the no. 5 singles flight.
The Bearcats hit the road for their next match as they travel to face North Greenville on March 23.
