Box Score 2 DAHLONEGA, GA. – After throttling the No. 21 North Georgia Nighthawks in game one of the three-game series, the Lander baseball team dropped two games against the Nighthawks on Saturday.
Lander now sits at 12-7 overall and 8-6 in the PBC while North Georgia improves to 15-6 overall and in the PBC.
The Bearcats fell 9-1 in the first game and 12-3 in the second.
Game one featured a stalemate through the first three innings before North Georgia broke through in the bottom of the fourth with five runs.
The Nighthawks would respond with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth before a run finally came across for Lander off a throwing error. North Georgia notched one run in the bottom of the seventh off a ground out to make it a 9-1 game.
Grad Student Justin Walker went four innings while allowing seven hits and five runs. He struck out four and was given the loss for the game.
Game two saw the Nighthawks jump out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning. Lander responded with junior Mason Streater bashing one of his two solo shots of the day to right field to put the Bearcats on the board in the top of the second. North Georgia however would plate a run of their own in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly to center field.
A home run from the Nighthawks in the third made it a 6-1 ball game before back-to-back home runs from redshirt junior Evan Harold and Streater put Lander just three runs back of North Georiga.
That would not be the case for long, with North Georgia scoring a run in the fifth and five more in the sixth to pull away with a 12-3 advantage.
Junior Carson Schlegel was given his first loss of the season after going 4.1 innings while allowing six hits, seven runs, six earned and striking out one Nighthawk.
The Bearcats prepare for a three-game series with the Augusta Jaguars on March 23 and 24.
