GREENWOOD – The Lander women's tennis began started 1-0 in conference play with a 7-0 victory over Young Harris on Friday.
The Bearcats move to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the PBC while Young Harris drops to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the PBC.
Lander started off with a sweep of the doubles point, winning all three matches. Redshirt senior Eduarda Ferreira and senior Maria Rey started things off with a 6-1 victory at the no. 1 doubles spot. Sophomore Raquel Acco and freshman Chiara Gerbino took a 6-2 win at the no. 2 doubles spot while seniors Lindsey Wiggins and Kayleigh Hahn won the no. 3 doubles 7-5.
Up 1-0 after doubles play, Lander saw Wiggins wins 6-0,6-0 at the no. 6 singles spot to make it 2-0. Sophomore Roberta Armani won 6-0-6-3 at the no. 5 singles spot while Gerbino clinched the win with a 6-3,6-2 victory at the no. 2 singles spot. Rey then took a 6-2, 6-2 win at the no. 4 singles spot, Acco won 6-2,6-2 at the no. 2 singles spot while Ferreira won 6-7, 6-3, 10-7 at the no. 1 singles spot.
The Bearcats will host North Georgia on March 14 for their next match.
