Box Score AMERICUS, Ga. – The Lander women's soccer team got second-half goals from Kelcie Fisher and Kylee Eppl in its first road game of the season to notch a 2-0 shutout win over Georgia Southwestern on Monday night.
Lander (1-2) broke the scoreless tie in the 68th minute when Fisher netted her second goal of the season to put the Bearcats up 1-0. Seven minutes later, Lander drew a foul in the box and Eppl did the honors, burying the penalty kick to put the match out of reach.
The win marked Lander's second shutout win in its last three trips to Hurricane Field and its 15th victory in 15 tries against Georgia Southwestern (0-3).
Lander peppered the goal with 14 shots in the second half, holding a 21-10 shot advantage on the night. Fisher put three shots on target, while MacKenzie Yandle tallied two shots on goal. Lander attempted five corner kicks on the night and ended with eight shots on target, both season highs. Sarah Owen made four saves on the night and Taylor Frew made two stops in the first action of her career.
Lander will return to campus for a home match against Francis Marion next Monday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
