Men's Basketball set to host Columbus State on Monday

GREENWOOD – After winning two of the last three road games, the Lander men's basketball team will finally return to Horne Arena to host Columbus State on February 15.

STORYLINE

  • Lander is back on even footing after defeating Francis Marion 84-80 on Saturday. The Bearcats are 6-6 overall and 4-4 in conference.
  • This will be the first home game for Lander playing Francis Marion at Horne Arena on January 13.
  • Lander is 3-0 so far this season at its home venue.
  • Redshirt junior Zane Rankin has led the Bearcats in two of the three road games last week. He scored 24 points against Young Harris and 18 at Francis Marion. Rankin was a combined 11-of-14 from beyond the arc in those games.
  • Junior Jermaine Patterson surpassed 550 career points. Playing the last two seasons at Queens, the junior guard has a team-high 175 points this season.
  • Senior Deon Berrien is two points away from scoring 500 as a Bearcat.
  • Four Bearcats are averaging double figures in scoring this season, along with Patterson at 14.6 points per game, Berrien is averaging 12.4 points per game, senior DaJuan Moorer is averaging 11.3 PPG and senior Sidney Robinson is averaging 10.2 points per game.
  • Moorer is currently averaging 7.2 rebounds per game, good for 12th in the PBC along with a top-five 1.6 blocks per game.
  • The Bearcats have found success with the long ball, as they connect on 9.2 3-pointers per game, the second-most in the PBC.
  • The last time these two sides met was in the PBC championship last season. Lander came away with a 76-73 victory. Tyler Brevard led the Bearcats with 21 points while Moorer and Berrien combined for 25 points and 18 rebounds.
  • The Cougars are averaging 72.4 points per game while allowing 74.3, giving them a scoring margin of -1.9.
  • Three players for CSU are averaging double figures in scoring, with Hunter Preston leading the way with 12.6 points per game. Kalen Clifton is second on the team with 12.3 points per game and Christian Chambers rounds the list out with 12.0 points per game.
  • Anthony Moore is leading the Cougars with 8.1 rebounds per game. He's also putting up 9.4 points per game.
  • Lander gets to stay home for the time being, as they host no. 21 Flagler next on February 17.
