GREENWOOD – The Lander men's basketball team found its first win of the season after they defeated Savannah State 64-51 at Horne Arena on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The Bearcats shot the lights out in the first half against Savannah State, as the Blue and Gold shot 50 percent from the field in the first frame, hitting 13-of-26 shots.
The two sides battled early on, with the Bearcats leading by just one point with 16:15 left in the first frame with an 8-7 lead.
A 3-point shot from Deandre Robinson helped make that an 11-7 game before Jared Sherfield hit a jumper in the pain to increase the leas to six with 15:06 left. The Bearcats would see their first-half lead grow to as many as 14, with a 3-pointer from Robinson to make it 27-13 with 6:23 remaining in the first. Lander would hold onto a double-figure lead into the half after a pair of free throws were converted by Tommy Moore with just two seconds remaining in the first half.
Second Half
Savannah State would come out of the gate firing, going on a 13-4 run to tie the game at 41 with 13:33 remaining. A 3-point shot from Martin Vogts would establish a new Bearcat lead, which would eventually reach back to double figures when a 3-point shot was made from Jared Sherfield with 3:16 left, putting Lander up 60-48.
