AMERICUS, Ga. – After back-to-back defeats, the Lander men's soccer team ended the losing skid with a 1-0 victory at Georgia Southwestern Saturday night.
The Bearcats move to 9-6-0 overall and 6-4-0 in the PBC while GSW drops to 6-7-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the PBC.
Lander scored the game's only goal in the 17th minute of play when
Tom Marriott was able to beat a sliding Hurricane keeper and feed
Marco Gueli in the box for his fourth of the season. With the assists, Marriott is now up to 10 assists. He is also the first Bearcat since Adam Arthur to record 10 or more goals and assists in a single season. Arthur had 15 goals and 11 assists in 2006.
The Bearcats were finding ways to put shots on goal all night, with seven of their 10 shots going on goal.
Jacob Withers only had to make two saves as he picked up his 26th career shutout and fourth win of the season.
Lander now prepare for the final week of the regular season with a pair of home games on October 27 and 30.
