STORYLINES

  • Although winning the first game against Aiken 73-66, the long-range shooting from the Pacers last Saturday proved to be too much to handle for the Blue and Gold as Aiken prevailed 81-73.
  • Junior Jermaine Patterson carried the torch for the Bearcats, scoring 32 points on 10-of-18 from the field. He also had seven rebounds and two steals.
  • For the third consecutive game, Lander saw three players reach double figures in scoring. Senior Deon Berrien put up 14 points along with five blocks and three rebounds while freshman Sebastian Augustave contributed 11 points, five rebounds and two steals to round the list out.
  • Another streak that continues to move along is having 30 or more points in the paint, as Lander scored 34 against Aiken in the most recent meeting.
  • Although not contributing to a win, Lander was able to outrebound their opponent for the first time this season, taking 42 total rebounds compared to Aikens 29.
  • Turnovers have been an issue for the Bearcats in the early portion of the season, as Lander averages 18 turnovers a game.
  • The Bearcats swept Young Harris in the regular season last year, winning the first contest 95-85 on December 19 on the road and then 83-74 on February 1 in Greenwood.
  • Berrien led the Bearcats in scoring with 17 points off the bench in the last meeting between the two teams. He also had 11 rebounds. Redshirt junior Zane Rankin had 16 points off the bench to help push Lander towards the victory.
  • Lander is currently riding a three-game winning streak against the Mountain Lions.
  • Young Harris returns two of their top-five leading scorers from last season. Senior Alphonso Willis is the leading returning scorer after averaging 15.5 PPG along with a team-high nine rebounds per game. Senior Seth McCoy also returns after scoring 9.4 PPG.
  • The Mountain Lions went 9-19 overall last season while going 7-13 in conference play.
