Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander baseball team got a three-run homer from Roury Glanton and clinched a Peach Belt Conference series victory by beating Flagler 6-2 Saturday afternoon at Dolny Stadium.
The Bearcats (12-7, 6-4 PBC) will try to earn the sweep over the Saints (12-8, 4-7) Sunday at noon at Dolny Stadium. Lander won Friday 3-2 on Justin Wager's walk-off sacrifice fly.
Bearcats starting pitcher Fraser Ellard (2-2) earned Saturday's victory, allowing only one run on six hits in seven innings. He struck out five and walked three.
Praise Thorsen pitched the final two innings for Lander, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two and walking none.
Flagler starter Christian O'Kelley (1-3) took the loss.
Lander took a 1-0 lead in the second when Gregory walked, moved to third on a double by Bradley Davis and scored on Landon Dupert's sacrifice fly to left.
The Saints drew even on Adam Mitchell's home run in the top of the fourth. It was his first homer of the season.
The Bearcats regained a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Gregory homered over the right-field fence, his fourth of the season.
It took just four pitches for Lander to extend its lead to 5-1 in the sixth. Evan Harold hit the first pitch of the inning past short for a single, Mike Fitschen lined the second pitch he saw to right for a single, and Glanton smacked the first pitch over the wall for a three-run homer.
It was Glanton's fifth homer of the season and moved him past Harold for the team RBI lead with 24.
Flagler threatened in the top of the eighth but scored just one run. Alex Amos and Aaron Anderson started the inning with singles, but Lander escaped further damage allowing only J.T. Marr's sacrifice fly.
The Bearcats got that run back in the bottom of the eighth. Glanton was hit by a pitch and Gary Garrett pinch ran for him. Garrett advanced to second when Gregory walked, stopped at third when Wager was hit by a pitch, and scored when Matthew Burgess walked.
Josh Shrouder and Zach Heming had two hits apiece for Flagler, which out-hit Lander 9-6. Gregory had a homer, three walks and two runs scored for the Bearcats.
