Box Score GREENWOOD - With the winning run on third in the bottom of the ninth, redshirt sophomore Justin Wager would connect on a sac fly to center field to give Lander a 3-2 win against Flagler Friday night at Stephen B. Dolny Stadium.
Sophomore Bryce Jackson earned his first collegiate victory with an inning of relief. Ethan Jones was charged with the loss for Flagler.
Lander moves to 11-7 on the year and 5-4 in PBC play, while Flagler falls to 12-7 and 4-6 in conference action.
Flagler pushed across the first run of the contest in the second, after an RBI single to center field. The Saints would add another run in the sixth thanks to a bases-loaded walk to take a 2-0 lead.
A bases-loaded walk by Evan Harold and a sac fly by Mike Fitschen in the eighth would tie the game at two heading into the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, Josh Gregory would lead off with a double. Landon Dupert would pop up to the first baseman as Gregory would advance to third with one out. Justin Wager would then hit a sac fly to center field to score Gregory and seal the game.
Lander's pitchers held Flagler to just six hits, and none of them went for extra bases. The Bearcats are 7-1 when giving up six or fewer hits in a game. Mike Fitschen's nine-game hit streak came to an end tonight.
Lander and Flagler will return to the diamond for game two of the series on Saturday, as the squads will face each other at 2 p.m. at Dolny Stadium.
