Box Score GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball team gave up ten runs in the last three innings en route to a 13-4 loss to Belmont Abbey Tuesday evening at Stephen B. Dolny Stadium.
The Bearcats fall to 13-8 on the year, while Belmont Abbey improves to 12-12. Mitchell Keener picked up the win, and Davis Cunningham was hit with the loss.
Belmont Abbey struck first in the contest with one run in the first inning after an RBI double from Zach Aehlert. Lander would take the lead in the second thanks to a two-run home run by Landon Dupert.
The Crusaders would retake the lead in the third with a two-run double by Mason Dodd. In the sixth Bradley Davis would connect on an RBI single to tie the game at four.
Belmont Abbey would score four runs in the seventh to take the lead. A grand slam and wild pitch in the ninth would push the Crusader lead to 13-4.
Landon Dupert led the Bearcats at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, highlighted by two RBI, a home run, and a run scored.
Davis Agle started on the mound for Lander and pitched 2.2 innings before handing the ball to Davis Cunningham, who pitched the next 3.1 innings. Ryan Flores took over for Cunningham, giving up one hit and one run in 0.2 innings of relief.
Marshall Thompson entered the game for Flores and pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three runs on one hit. Jackson Bryant would struggle on the mound in the ninth as Zeke Stephens would come in and close out the game for the Bearcats.
Lander will return to action this weekend when it hosts Francis Marion in a three-game series. Friday's game is set for 6:00 p.m. at Stephen B. Dolny Stadium.
