Box Score GREENWOOD - Headlined by four runs in the seventh inning, the Lander baseball team earned a 7-5 win against Cedarville Friday afternoon at Stephen B. Dolny Stadium.
Redshirt-sophomore Zeke Stephens earned his first win of the season on the mound with 3.0 innings, and he struck out a career-high six batters. Cedarville's Hunter Kraynak was charged with the loss, as he yielded three runs in 0.1 of relief. Bryce Jackson earned his second save of the year.
In the second inning, Bo Richey would rip an RBI single to center field followed by a sac fly by Mason Streater to give the Bearcats the early 2-0 lead. Cedarville would quickly respond in the next half inning as they used a wild pitch and an RBI double to tie the game.
The Yellow Jackets would score three runs in the fifth to jump out to a 5-2 lead. In the sixth Roury Glanton would score from third on a groundout to second base by Josh Gregory to trim the deficit.
Lander would explode for four runs in the seventh inning highlighted by RBI singles by Mike Fitschen, Nathan Schreckengost, and Josh Gregory to give the Bearcats the 7-5 lead. The Bearcats would not allow another run the rest of the game.
Bo Richey led the Bearcats at the plate with a 3-for-3 outing, highlighted by one RBI and one walk. Lander has scored first in all five games this season.
Justin Walker started on the mound and pitched 5.0 innings with four strikeouts, allowing three earned runs, six hits, and three walks. Zeke Stephens was stellar out of the bullpen in 3.0 innings of relief, as he recorded at least two strikeouts in every inning. Bryce Jackson came on to pitch the ninth and took care of the Yellow Jackets with a pair of strikeouts and a flyout.
Lander will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they travel to Franklin Springs, Ga. to face Emmanuel in a doubleheader.
