Box Score COLUMBUS, GA. - Despite a career-high 7.1 innings pitched by senior pitcher Fraser Ellard, the Lander baseball team came up short in game two of the series at No. 23 Columbus State, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
Lander falls to 10-6 on the year and 4-3 in PBC play, while Columbus State improves to 13-3 and 7-1 in league action.
Columbus State broke through with the game's first two runs in the bottom of the first. An RBI double and a runner scoring on an error would give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars would add two more runs in the third thanks to a two-run home run. The Bearcats would get on the board in the fifth on an RBI double by Roury Glanton. The Cougars would allow only two hits in the final four innings to seal the game.
Cougar starter Devin Dudal threw 7.0 innings while giving up only one run, six hits, one walk, and struck out seven to earn his fourth win of the season. Bearcat starter Fraser Ellard was charged with his second loss of the year after yielding four runs in 7.1 innings. Cougar reliever Brady Kais would come in the ninth for the second straight game and earn his fourth save of the year.
Colton Yeager led the Bearcats at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance, highlighted by two singles. Roury Glanton went 1-3 with an RBI double. He is currently fourth in the PBC in RBI with 21.
Lander and Columbus State will meet in game three of the series Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
