Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Lander baseball team held off a late rally from Claflin Saturday afternoon to earn a 6-4 win at Historic Mirmow Field. With the win, the Bearcats clinched its first PBC road series of the season.
Lander moves to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the PBC while Claflin falls to 2-7 on the year and 0-5 in the PBC.
Davis Cunningham started on the mound for Lander and threw 4.2 innings, giving up three earned runs, four walks, and striking out six batters. Carson Schlegel came in and pitched the last 4.1 innings. He gave up one earned run and struck out two batters to record the win and remain unbeaten with a 3-0 clip.
Evan Harold would hit his fifth homer of the year to give the Bearcats the early 1-0 lead in the second. Claflin would plate a pair of runs in the bottom half to take the lead.
The Panthers would add another run in the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth, Evan Harold would launch his second home run of the game to make it a one-run game. Later on, in the seventh, Roury Glanton would come up big with a two-out RBI single to tie the game.
Mason Streater would break the tie in the eighth with a line drive into right-center. Colton Yeager would smack a two-RBI single to add to the Bearcat lead. Claflin would score a run int the ninth and threaten to come back, but the Bearcats were able to close out.
Evan Harold led the Bearcats at the plate going 2-for-4, with two home runs and two RBI.
Lander will face Claflin in the third and final game of their three-game series tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Historic Mirmow Field.
