NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lander wrestling team competed in its final tournament of the regular season over the weekend at the Newberry Open, putting five wrestlers on the mat at Newberry.
Lander's top performer was Ezekiel Marquez, who made the chapionship of the 133 bracket. After earning a bye in the first round, Marquez used a pair of pins to make the title bout, falling to Kai Orine of N.C. State.
Other notable performances included Austin Ross at 125, who bounced back from an opening loss to win four matches and advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket. Joshua Maningding picked up a pair of consolation bracket wins to make the quarterfinals at 141.
Lander is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Queens.
