Dailey makes 12 of 13 shots, leads Lander to 13th consecutive victory

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's basketball team rode Tabitha Dailey's 12-for-13 shooting performance and rolled to its 13th consecutive victory, beating Peach Belt Conference foe Young Harris 94-64 Saturday afternoon at Horne Arena.

The Bearcats improved to 17-3 overall and 12-0 in the PBC. They beat an opponent by more than 20 points for the seventh time this season.

The Mountain Lions fell to 12-8, 6-6. It was their eighth consecutive loss to Lander.

Dailey made her first six shots from the floor for the second consecutive game and finished with a season-high 29 points. The senior forward has made a combined 29 of 35 shots over the last three games.

Aniaya Jester added 12 points for the Bearcats while Quin'De'Ja Hamilton scored 11 points, making three 3-pointers.

Zamiya Passmore scored eight points while leading Lander with five assists. Makaila Cange added eight points on four of six shooting for the Bearcats.

Miriam Recarte paced Lander with nine rebounds and six blocked shots. Jessica Harris and Sarah Crews led the Bearcats with four steals apiece.

Niaya White paced Young Harris with 14 points while Carly Winters added 11 points.

Lander trailed 10-9 under the six-minute mark of the first quarter but scored 10 unanswered points to take the lead for good.

Recarte started the run with a jumper from the left side and then blocked a shot, Passmore drove around the defense for a layup, Dailey scored inside, Passmore made two free throws, and Jester added a steal and layup for a 19-10 lead.

The Bearcats led 21-13 after one quarter.

Lander scored the first 11 points of the second period to build a 32-13 advantage. Dailey scored twice inside, Hamilton made a 3 from the right side, and Cange scored twice in the paint to complete the 11-0 run.

The overall run that started with Recarte's go-ahead basket was 23-3. The Bearcats led 41-21 at halftime.

Jester lobbed a pass inside to Dailey for a layup and then converted a three-point play off a steal, increasing Lander's lead to 54-31 with six minutes left in the third.

Dailey scored the final nine points in the third quarter for the Bearcats, including a put-back with five seconds left which extended the lead to 68-40 going into the fourth.

The lead exceeded 30 points when Dailey scored twice more early in the fourth for a 73-42 advantage with 8:36 left. Hamilton and Cierra Revelle followed with 3s, extending the lead to 79-45.

Amiaya Melvins scored three times, Jakiyah Parker added two baskets, and Karimah Jenkins made two free throws over the game's final 6:49.
