FLORENCE, S.C. – The Lander men's basketball team would score a season-high in points to defeat Francis Marion, 100-80, Saturday afternoon inside the Smith University Center.

The Bearcats move to 10-3 (4-1 PBC) with the win, while the Patriots drop to 3-9 (2-3 PBC).

Tyler Brevard led the Bearcats with 21 points as he shot 8-of-13 from the field, including 2-of-3 shooting from long range. He also added three rebounds and four assists.

Brevard was joined in double figures by three other Lander players. Elijah Alston contributed 17 points, Deon Berrien had 16 points, and Justin Holliday was perfect from the field as he scored 11 points shooting 3-3 from three-point range.

The Bearcats out-rebounded the Patriots, 43-21. Fifteen of those boards came on the offensive glass.

All of the players except for one that entered the game for Lander filled the scoring column, aided by the Bearcats season-high 22 assists.

Both teams struggled offensively to start the game as they could not seem to find the bottom of the net. The Patriots would go a 9-1 run to take the lead, but hot shooting from three-point range would keep the Bearcats in the game. Lander would then explode on offense as they would end the first half on a 16-4 run to give them a 47-36 lead at the break.

The Bearcats would come out of halftime and play with a sense of urgency as they would build their lead to 78-58 thanks to an 18-9 run. After that, Francis Marion never got closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

Lander will take on UNC Pembroke in Pembroke, N.C., on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
