AMERICUS, Ga. – The Lander baseball team rallied for a win in the series finale against Georgia Southwestern to earn a split of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader. The Bearcats dropped game one 11-7 before notching a 6-4 victory in game two. 

The Bearcats (16-27, 11-13 PBC) fell behind in game one, 1-0, before Landon Dupert tied the game in the top of the second with an RBI single to bring home Bailey Connell. Georgia Southwestern (16-27, 10-14 PBC) moved ahead 5-1 with a four-run second inning, but Lander responded with five runs of its own. The Bearcats loaded the bases in the top of the third and Connell was hit by a pitch to cut the deficit 5-2. Roury Glanton followed with a grand slam over the left field fence to put Lander on top, 6-5. 

The Hurricanes quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to pull back in front, 7-6, but Kyle Jenkins' sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth plated Josh Gregory to knot the score. However, Georgia Southwestern put the game away with two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take the series victory. 

In game two, Lander fell behind 1-0 before an RBI single from Glanton and a Zack Moore sacrifice fly in the fourth put the Bearcats ahead 2-1. Georgia Southwestern reclaimed the lead with a two-run seventh inning, but the Bearcats rallied in the top of the eighth. Mike Fitschen tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI single and Glanton put Lander ahead for good with a three-run homer, his third in four games. 

The Hurricanes managed one run in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate, but Ryan Troutman struck out the final batter to pick up his fifth save of the season. 

Carson Schlegel (1-2) allowed on run on three hits in 1.2 innings of relief to earn his first career victory for the Bearcats. 

Lander faces No. 1 North Greenville on Wednesday in Greenville, S.C.
