Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – The Lander baseball team fell 17-4 to No. 19-ranked Mount Olive to wrap up its opening weekend at the Steinbrenner Field Spring Classic.
The Bearcats (1-3) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on RBI singles from Carson Jones and Roury Glanton, but Mount Olive (3-0) answered with five runs in the top of the fourth.
Lander cut the deficit to two in the bottom of the fourth as Vincent Addona led off with a double and came around to score.
The Trojans put the game out of reach with an 11-run ninth inning and Lander could only a single run in the bottom of the ninth when BJ Bush walked and scored on a wild pitch.
Lander returns to action next weekend with a three-game series against Millersville at Dolny Stadium.
