Baseball sees three-game winning streak end in 11-2 loss to Newberry

Box Score

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lander baseball team was held without a hit over the final six innings as Newberry used a five-run fourth inning to seize control and earn an 11-2 win in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.

Lander (8-8) grabbed a 2-0 in the top of the third on a solo home run from Bailey Connell and a sacrifice fly from Nathan Schreckengost. However, the Wolves (12-4) scored the final 11 runs of the game to win their ninth consecutive game.

Zeke Stephens (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs, all in the fourth inning, on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Quinton Driggers (5-0) threw four shutout innings of relief to pick up the win.

Lander is back in action on Friday at 6:00 p.m. when the Bearcats open up a three-game series at Flagler.
