Wrestling competes at Tornado Open, Parker wins second tournament

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lander wrestling team nabbed its third tournament title in three events on Saturday as Darius Parker claimed his second consecutive championship with a tournament win at 197 at the Tornado Open.

"To win back-to-back tournaments as a true freshman is really impressive," said head coach R.C. LaHaye. "Darius wrestled hard, he wrestled aggressively, and he keeps improving every week."

Parker advanced to the championship match with a pair of decisions before earning a 7-4 decision to win the title over No. 8 Elijah Seay of King.

Elijah Gray advanced to the championship at 141, while Lander placed two wrestlers in the final four of the 184 field. Myles Starked finished third at 184, followed by JD Harrelson in fourth. Hayden Malson made the semifinals at 285.

Lander hosts the first dual meet in program history on Dec. 4 when the Bearcats face Mount Olive at 7:00 p.m. in Finis Horne Arena.
