PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Lander wrestling team nabbed one tournament title and finished with nine different wrestlers in podium positions at the UNCP Classic on Sunday.
"All in all, it was a good effort," said head coach R.C. LaHaye. "Our kids fought hard and wrestled hard all day. This gives us a week to recover and prepare to head to Tennessee."
After a second-place finish at the Georgia Open, Darius Parker won three decisions and added a pin to claim the championship at 197. Parker is now 8-1 in two events this season. Brandon Holt followed his title last week with a second-place finish at 133. Myles Starke avenged a loss to No. 11 Brandon Sloop of UNCP in the 184 championship at the Georgia Open, defeating Sloop in a 6-4 decision in the second round before going on to finish second in the weight class. Cameron Coffman earned his second runner-up finish in as many events at 285.
Tyler Dahlgren placed third at 149, Angel Hernandez finished fourth at 174, and Ryan Humel notched a fifth-place finish at 184. Ezekial Marquez and Brice Harkness finished sixth at 133 and 165, respectively.
