Women's soccer ends in 1-1 tie against Clayton State

Box Score

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team used a goal in the first half by Lauren Brosonski to force overtime and earn a 1-1 draw against conference foe Clayton State on Wednesday night.

Clayton State outshot the Bearcats 13-5 and won 12 corners compared to Lander's five. Sarah Owen would make five saves while Clayton State's Valentina Bonaiuto would make three saves to keep the game tied at one.

Early on, Lauren Brosonski would connect on a ball from Brianna Taylor in the 25th minute to put the Bearcats up one. The Lakers, however, would control possession for most of the first half as the Bearcats would take a one-score lead going into halftime.

In the second half, the game would play out the same way it did in the first half as the Bearcats could not get anything going on offense. In the 54th minute, Clayton State's Natalie Barbara would find the back of the net to tie the game at one. The Bearcats would have opportunities to score the game-winning goal but could not capitalize as the game would go to overtime. Neither team could break through in the extra 20 minutes, ending the game in a stalemate.

Lander travels to Young Harris on Saturday for a 5:00 kickoff.
