GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to open the 2018 season with a 3-1 victory over Newberry on Wednesday night at Van Taylor Stadium.

The Bearcats (3-0) got goals from Brianna Taylor, Juliette Vidal and Emily Jermstad, and Sarah Owen notched three saves to earn her third win in goal. 

Taylor's goal in the 18th minute put the Bearcats ahead, as she took a cross from Jermstad and powered it into the upper-right corner for her second goal in as many matches. 

Newberry answered just minutes into the second half on a goal from Daphne Heyaime, but Vidal scored on an assist from Taylor to give Lander a lead that it would not relinquish. 

Jermstad put the finishing touches on the Bearcat win with a goal in the 71st minute. 

Lander returns to action on Saturday night as the Bearcats travel to Wingate for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
