Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lander baseball team fell behind early Friday night and could not rally despite home runs from Nathan Schreckengost and Luke Johnson, as the Bearcats fell to No. 13 Georgia College, 7-2, in a Peach Belt Conference series opener.
Lander (12-22, 6-13 PBC) trailed 6-0 following the third inning and Georgia College (25-7, 17-2 PBC) held on for its ninth consecutive win.
After the Bobcats plated three runs in the second and third innings, the Bearcats got on the board in the top of the fifth as Schreckengost launched his fourth home run of the season to pull Lander to within five runs.
The Bearcats inched closer in the top of the seventh on a solo shot from Johnson, also his fourth, to make the score 6-2. However, Georgia College tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth to seal the 7-2 win.
The Bobcats' Charlie Hecht (8-0) limited the Bearcats to just four hits in 7.0 innings of work, while Alex Moore (1-4) was tagged with the loss after surrendering six runs on seven hits with a career-high 11 strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
Lander and Georgia College resume the series Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
