Bearcats shut out in series opener at USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. – The Lander baseball team was held without a hit over the final eight innings of Friday night's PBC series opener at USC Aiken as the Pacers notched a 5-0 win over the Bearcats.

Lander (14-29, 7-18 PBC) managed just a two-out single from Nathan Schreckengost in the top of the first while USC Aiken (27-16, 18-7 PBC) posted three runs in the first inning and two runs in the sixth. 

USCA's Mitch Spence (5-3) went the distance for the Pacers, retiring 17 consecutive batters at one point. Spence finished the night with 12 strikeouts and three walks and did not allow a runner to reach second base. 

Alex Moore (1-4) took the loss for Lander, allowing five runs on five hits in 6.2 innings with six strikeouts and four walks. 

The Bearcats and Pacers will face each other in game two on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
