FLORENCE, S.C. – The Lander women's tennis team fell to Wingate and Augusta to finish fourth at the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational on Saturday.
Lander moves to 1-2 on the season.
In the first match of the day, the Bearcats dropped a 5-0 decision to Wingate in the tournament semifinals.
In singles, No. 2 Claudia De Andreis (WU) def. Caroline Yodice (LUW) 6-2, 6-4; and No. 5 Marisa Ostoja (WU) def. Isabella Schulz (LUW) 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles, No. 1 Michela Verpelli/Meredith Lee (WU) def. Caroline Yodice/Lindsey Wiggins (LUW) 8-6; No. 2 Claudia De Andreis/Sydney Homan (WU) def. Nelli Lius/Isabella Schulz (LUW) 8-4; and No. 3 Chyi Lee/Oroma Womeodu (WU) def. Eduarda Ferreira/Lucia Ric (LUW) 8-4.
In the third-place match, Lander fell behind 3-0 in doubles and could not rally against Augusta, falling 5-2.
