Men's basketball drops 118-103 shootout at Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lander men's basketball team scored 65 second-half points, but could not overcome a sharpshooting Young Harris team in a 118-103 loss in Peach Belt Conference action on Thursday night.

Lander (2-7, 1-2 PBC) got 23 points from Marquel Wiggins and a career-high 22 points from Jordan Dingle, but Young Harris (3-5, 1-1 PBC) shot 54.8 percent from the floor en route to 118 points, the most for the Mountain Lions since joining the NCAA ranks.

DeShundre Rucker netted a career-high 15 points for the Bearcats and Elijah Alston added 10 points. Wiggins led the Bearcats with nine rebounds while Dingle handed out a career-high 10 assists for the first double-double of his Bearcat career. 

Young Harris built a 27-point lead with 6:35 remaining, but closed the gap with a 20-9 run. 13 of those 20 points came from Dingle, who drained a trio of three-pointers over a 4:49 span. 

Lander held a 49-33 advantage on the glass, but committed 23 turnovers and was outscored 55-40 in the paint. Alphonso Willis led the Mountain Lions with 33 points, despite not attempting a three-pointer on the night. 

The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Clayton State for a 7:30 p.m. PBC matchup.
