Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lander men's basketball team used a 21-10 run over the final 10 minutes of the first half to pull away from Flager and earn a 73-56 win in a Peach Belt matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Lander, which won its fourth consecuitve game, improved to 9-12 overall and 6-6 in the PBC. The Saints fell to 9-12, (3-11).
Rahu Purdie paced the Bearcats with 17 points, JR Washington posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds and TJ Knight and Nicklas Jonsson each netted 12 points.
Cortlin Davis led Flagler with 16 points and Chris Williams finished with nine points and 15 rebounds.
Lander made 25-of-55 shots from the floor (45.5 percent), 17-of-25 free throws (68 percent) and 6-of-18 from 3-point range (33.3 percent).
The Saints hit 22-of-60 shots (36.7 percent), 8-of-15 free throws (53.3 percent) and 4-of-26 from behind the arc (15.4 percent).
Lander out-rebounded Flagler 41-39.
A 9-2 run featuring a pair of Jonsson three-pointers pushed Lander's lead to 30-20 with 7:36 to go in the first half. A jumper from Davis brought the Saints within eight with 3:33 remaining, but the Bearcats closed the half on an 8-2 run, punctuated by Purdie's basket with seven seconds left.
Lander kept the Saints at bay in the second half by knocking down 13-of-18 free throws.
The Bearcats return home to battle UNC Pembroke on Monday night at 7:30 p.m., in Horne Arena.
