Box Score GREENWOOD – Belmont Abbey broke open a tied game with five runs in the final four innings to defeat Lander 9-5 on Tuesday night at Dolny Stadium.
Belmont Abbey improves to 10-8 overall, while Lander slips to 7-9.
Parker MacPhail earned the victory in relief for the Crusaders after striking out six and allowing one hit in 2.1 innings of work. Lander's Robbie Hoyt (0-2) suffered the loss after striking out two and allowing two runs on one hit in two innings.
Belmont Abbey took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Lander countered on Carson Jones' RBI double that scored Alec Dowell and a Nathan Schreckengost groundout that plated Colton Yeager.
Lander grabbed a 3-2 lead in the second when Alex Conaway singled back up the middle to drive in Mason Dodd.
The Crusaders reclaimed the lead when Nick Beinlich homered in the third inning and Keenan Stanley doubled down the left field line to score Josh Genthe and give Belmont Abbey a 4-3 advantage.
The Bearcats evened the score in the fifth when a wild pitch brought home Mike Fitschen, but Belmont Abbey notched five runs over the final four innings to claim the 9-4 victory.
