Box Score St. Augustine, Fla. – The Lander volleyball team (15-9, 4-6 PBC) fell to Flagler (18-3, 7-1 PBC) in straight sets on Saturday morning, 12-25, 15-25, 8-25. Senior outside hitter Kristin Martindale led the team with seven kills to go along with four digs and two assists in the losing effort.
Flagler led by as many as 13 points in the first set as the Saints took advantage of 9 errors by the Bearcats to gain the 25-12 win. Senior Taja Valmyr powered Flagler to six straight points while serving.
The Saints again jumped out to an early lead in the second set behind five kills from Valmyr and three from freshman Karlie Redfern. The Bearcats were led by junior middle back Imari Ashley, who tallied three of her five kills on the match in the second set. Nonetheless, in spite of a late charge by Lander, Flagler won the second set by a margin of 25-15.
In the final set, Flagler never trailed as the Saints commanded an early 9-3 lead. Saints senior Sara Davis recorded five kills to lead Flagler to the 25-8 set and match win.
Junior Sophia Perkins and freshman Nell Copeland led the Bearcats with seven assists each. Perkins also led the team with nine digs. Senior Reyonia Whipple and freshman Hannah Hritz registered two block assists.
Lander will be back in action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Augusta.
