No. 17 men's soccer season ends with double-overtime loss to Young Harris

Box Score

Boca Raton, Fla. – The No. 17-ranked and third-seeded Lander men's soccer team's run towards a national championship ended on Friday afternoon as the Bearcats fell in double-overtime to fourth-seeded Young Harris, 3-2, in the Southeast Regional championship match hosted by Lynn University.

Lander finishes the season with a 13-4-3 overall record, while Young Harris, which improves to 14-3-2, advances to Sunday's quarterfinal round game against the Lynn/West Alabama winner.

Young Harris struck first when Mikey Rowe took a cross from Seba Andreassen and fired it inside the left post in the 30th minute to put the Mountain Lions ahead 1-0. Lander would respond at the 42:44 mark as Sia Jamedar's shot attempt from inside the box was saved and deflected to the feet of Jamie Lunn, who snuck a shot past Young Harris' Alex Iglesias to even the score before halftime.

The Mountain Lions reclaimed the lead early in the second half following a red card against Lander's George Knight. Awarded a free kick from just outside the box, Marco Micaletto bent a shot around the Bearcat wall and past a diving Dean Cowdroy to put Young Harris back on top at the 48:32 mark.

Playing with just 10 men, Lander held the Mountain Lions off the board for the next 33 minutes before losing a second player, as Jamie Lunn was issued a red card.

Down two men and needing a goal to extend their season, the Bearcats found a way when Young Harris was called for a handball inside the box. With just 46 seconds remaining in regulation, Jordan Skelton buried his seventh penalty kick of the season to tie the match at 2-2. With the make from Skelton, Lander improved to 15-for-15 on penalty kicks in the postseason and 19-for-19 on the year.

Following a scoreless first overtime session, Young Harris finally cracked the short-handed Lander defense. Carl Brannstrom's pass was headed in by Andreassen past Aleksander Holboe to end the match at the 100:41 mark.

Despite being down at least one player for 62:09 of the match, Lander outshot Young Harris 11-9 and earned six corner kicks to the Mountain Lions' three. Cowdroy and Iglesias each made three saves.
