Box Score WINGATE, N.C. – The Lander men's soccer team took nationally-ranked Wingate to overtime, but the Bulldogs prevailed to hand the Bearcats a 2-1 defeat on Saturday night in a non-conference match.
Lander moves to 1-3 on the season, while Wingate improves to 2-0.
The Bulldogs, who were ranked No. 11 in the latest NSCAA national poll, got on the board first courtesy of a goal from Garret Bridgewater at the 37:09 mark in the first half.
For the second consecutive match, Hugo Delhommelle netted a goal late in the second half as the sophomore found the back of the net at 78:38 on a free kick to knot the score at 1-1.
Wingate's game-winner came less than five minutes into the first overtime period, as Jon Ander's goal gave the Bulldogs the victory.
The Bulldogs outshot Lander, 17-10, on the night and registered six corner kicks to Lander's three.
Lander goalkeeper Dean Cowdroy and Wingate goalkeeper Pablo Jara both recorded four saves.
Lander travels to Clayton State on Saturday night for its first Peach Belt Conference match of the season.
