Baseball wins fifth straight, defeats Limestone, 16-5

GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball team smacked three home runs, scattered 12 hits and won its fifth straight game Tuesday night when the Bearcats downed Limestone, 16-5, in a non-conference contest at Dolny Stadium.

Lander improves to 13-5 overall, while Limestone drops to 9-11.

Andrew Reardon (1-0) was awarded the win after striking out three and walking one in 1.2 hitless innings. Limestone's Josh Shailer (1-4) took the loss after striking out one, walking two and allowing six earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings.

A combined 14 pitchers were used in the game.

Matt White put the Bearcats on the scoreboard first when he stroked his fifth home run of the season, this one a solo shot, over the left field fence.

The Bearcats then exploded for seven runs in the second inning to stretch their lead to 8-0. Mason Dodd kicked the scoring barrage off with a three-run homer, his second of the season, Matt White advanced home on a bases-loaded walk, John Mangum followed with a two-RBI single that plated Colby Lusignan, and Zach Daly, and Taylor Kellner's sacrifice fly scored Thomas Berry.

The Saints cut the Lander lead to 8-3 in the third on Garrett Lowery's three run shot to right field. It was his second home run of the year.

Lander added four more runs in the third on Daly's two-RBI single and Lusignan's two-run homer to centerfield to make it 12-3. It was Lusignan's sixth home run of the season.

Lusignan's two-run double in the fourth scored Daly and Dodd, then Kellner added a two-RBI single that plated Berry and Lusignan to finalize the Bearcats' scoring.

The Saints' Dillion Palencia homered over the right field wall in the fifth to make it 16-4, then Limestone added another run in the eighth on Brett Duckett's RBI single.

For Lander, Lusignan batted 2-for-3 with four RBI, Dodd 2-for-5 with three RBI, White 2-for-5, and John Mangum 2-for-3 with two RBI.

For Limestone, Lowery went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Palencia and Duckett also had two hits apiece.
