Box Score

GREENWOOD – Lander catcher John Mangum hit his second three-run homer in as many days and pitcher Colton Rogers earned his first victory as the No. 32 Bearcats beat 37th-ranked Flagler College 6-1 in a Peach Belt Conference game Saturday afternoon at Dolny Stadium.

Lander has won the first two games in the series, improving to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the PBC. The Saints fell to 1-3, 0-2.

The teams will play the final game of the series Sunday at noon at Dolny Stadium.

Lander jumped ahead with four runs in the first inning, with Matt White drawing a leadoff walk, stopping at second on Zach Daly's single up the middle, and scoring on Thomas Berry's single to right. Mangum followed with a homer over the left field fence. It was his fourth home run of the season.

Flagler left the bases loaded in both the second and third innings but did score once in the third when Igor Baez drew a bases-loaded walk.

The Bearcats added two runs in the seventh on a single, two walks and a hit batsman. Berry hit a leadoff single, Mangum and Taylor Kellner walked, freshman Jordan Curtis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in his first college at-bat to make it 5-1, and Mangum scored on a wild pitch.

Flagler threatened in the ninth with a single, double, and walk. But first baseman Colby Lusignan threw a runner out at the plate to keep the Saints off the board.

Rogers (1-1) was the winning pitcher for Lander, allowing one run on six hits in seven innings. He collected a career-high seven strikeouts, including three in his final inning. Andrew Reardon pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

Saints starting pitcher Michael Maiocco (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs in only two innings.

Berry was Lander's leading hitter, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Daly went 2-for-5, and Mangum was 1-for-2 with a homer, two runs scored and three RBI.

Lorenzo Butler had three hits including a double for Flagler, while Kolin McMillen added two hits.
