Box Score GREENWOOD – Taylor Piorkowski netted a career-high four goals as the Lander women's soccer team concluded the 2016 season with an 8-3 rout of Georgia Southwestern on Saturday at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander finishes the year at 4-11-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the Peach Belt Conference. Georgia Southwestern ends the season 3-14, (0-12).
Piorkowski opened the scoring at 6:34 and Kari George followed suit at the 14:58 mark off an assist from Kirsty Ellinger to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.
Both Piorkowski and George found the back of the net again at 17:15 and 20:52, respectively, as the Bearcat lead grew to 4-0. Sara Flores and Caroline Casey contributed the assists.
Emily Jermstad netted the fifth goal of the half for Lander on another assist from Flores at 29:35 before the Hurricanes answered on a penalty kick from Khayla Owens at 41:00 to make the score 5-1.
Piorkowski recorded her first career hat trick at 58:48 on Flores' third assist of the afternoon to increase the Lander lead to 6-1. Owens scored again at 63:18 to trim the Hurricane deficit to four before Logan Lewis scored her first goal of the season at the 67:59 mark on another Ellinger assist.
Piorkowski capped the Lander scoring off a Morgan Cordier assist at 77:31 and Owens' third goal of the day for Georgia Southwestern ended the scoring at 86:04.
The Bearcats outshot the Hurricanes, 23-5, and led in corner kicks, 7-1
Lander goalkeeper Hannah Cowan totaled two on the day, while Chelsee Wright collected five saves for the Hurricanes.
