Box Score AMERICUS, GA. - Natalie Thompson and Logan Lewis each scored twice Saturday afternoon to lead the Lander women's soccer team to a 6-1 victory over Georgia Southwestern in the team's Peach Belt Conference opener.
The Bearcats took an early 1-0 lead on a Lewis goal from Sara Flores at 6:16. The Hurricanes answered with an unassisted gaol from Ella Hawkins to tie the match at 41:43, but Mary-Jordan Hiller found Thompson at 44:59 to give the Bearcats a 2-1 advantage at halftime.
Lewis scored her second goal of the afternoon at 53:07 on another assist from Flores, who scored unassisted at 56:53 to push Lander ahead 4-1.
The Bearcats capped the scoring with a goal from Courtney Hagedorn at 73:38 and another goal from Thompson at the 76:36 mark.
Lander improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in PBC play, while the Hurricanes drop to 2-4 and 0-1 in the conference. Lander returns home on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. conference match against Georgia College at Van Taylor Stadium.
