Box Score GREENWOOD – The Tusculum baseball team scattered 10 hits and struck out 13 Lander batters Wednesday night en route to a 7-3 non-conference victory over Bearcats at Dolny Stadium.
The Pioneers improve to 16-10 overall, while Lander drops to 14-17.
Tusculum's Zach Slagle (2-2) earned the win, striking out eight, walking three and allowing one earned run on three hits in 6.2 innings pitched.
Lander's Erik Holton (0-2) was tagged with the loss after striking out three, walking one and allowing four earned runs on three hits in three innings.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Colby Painter's solo home run over the right field wall.
But Tusculum rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the third inning on Jim Tolle's two-run homer to right field. The Pioneers stretched their advantage to 5-1 in the fifth on Tolle's two-RBI double and Jeremiah Tullidge's RBI single.
The Bearcats trimmed it to 5-3 when Will Jones doubled in John Mangum in the seventh and Matt White scored on a wild pitch in the eighth.
Tusculum added two insurance runs in the ninth on Chris Waylock's two-RBI single that plated Tanner Maloof and Tullidge.
For Lander, Painter went 2-for-4.
For Tusculum, Kevin Victoriano went 3-for-4, while Tolle and Nick Rodriguez had two hits each.
