Box Score

DUE WEST - The Lander baseball team rallied for four runs in the seventh inning Tuesday afternoon en route to an 11-8 non-conference, upset victory over No. 3-ranked Erskine College at Grier Field.

It was the 10th straight win for the Bearcats over the Flying Fleet that dates back to 2011. Lander improves to 14-16 overall, while Erskine drops to 25-3.

Matt White led off Lander's seventh inning heroics with a two-RBI single, then joined Taylor Kellner across the plate on an Erskine error.

With a 9-8 lead, the Bearcats held off the Fleet with one run each in the eighth and ninth innings. John Mangum homered over the left field fence in the eighth and Thomas Berry doubled in Kellner in the ninth.

The Bearcats' Jay Robinson (1-0) earned the victory on the mound, walking one and allowing one earned run on two hits in two innings pitched. Cameron Tekker was awarded his first save of the season after striking out one and allowing one hit in three innings.

Erskine's Terry Hall (0-1) was the losing pitcher, allowing one unearned run on one hit.

The Fleet took a 1-0 lead in the first when Brandon Overstreet scored on a double play, then stretched the margin to 5-0 in the second on Tanner Lollis' two-RBI single and Overstreet's two-RBI double.

Lander erupted for four runs in the third to close the gap to 5-4 on Alex Conaway's RBI single that plated Mangum, Kellner sacrifice fly that sent Matt Jones home, and Berry's two-run homer.

Erskine answered with one run in the fifth when Joey Wilson had an RBI single, but Lander came right back in the sixth to make it 6-5 on Chris Hyatt's sacrifice file.

The Fleet scored its final two runs in their half of the sixth when Zach Smith singled in Houston Ison and Overstreet scored on a wild pitch.

For Lander, Kellner and Berry batted 3-for-4 while Conaway and Mangum added two hits each.

Overstreet led Erskine with three hits, while Wilson and Andrew Kozak had two each.
