Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Lander women's basketball team saw its four-game win streak come to an end Wednesday night when the Lady Bearcats dropped an 87-73 decision to Peach Belt Conference rival Armstrong State at the Alumni Center.
Armstrong improves to 12-12 overall and 10-7 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 21-5, 14-3.
Bre Crum led the way for the Lady Bearcats with 16 points and four assists, while Breshay Johnson added 14 points, six rebounds and five steals, and Kayla West 10 points.
Dee Hayward and Brigitta Barta netted 25 and 24 points respectively for the Pirates, while Shermika Harris added 16. Barta also had a game-high 11 rebounds, while Alexia Somerset grabbed 10.
Lander connected on 24-of-71 field goals (33.8 percent), including 5-of-19 threes (26.3 percent), and 20-of-26 free throws (76.9 percent).
Armstrong, which outrebounded Lander, 53-32, was 24-of-54 from the field (44.4 percent), including 6-of-11 from the three-point line (54.5 percent), and 33-of-43 from the foul line (76.7 percent).
The Lady Bearcats led the game one time at 4-2. After a 6-6 tie Armstrong took a 9-6 advantage with 15:04 left in the first half and never trailed the remainder of the game.
The Pirates earned their largest first-half lead at 19-8 with 10:44 left, but Lander went on a 12-2 scoring spree to cut the margin to 21-20 at the 7:36 mark.
Armstrong outscored Lander, 21-9, the remainder of the half and led, 42-29, at halftime.
The Pirates built their lead up to 18 points (60-42) with 11:52 left to play, but Lander battled back to cut the margin to 71-67 on a West layup with 3:13 left to play.
Armstrong scored seven unanswered points to go back up 78-67 with 2:26 remaining.
