Box Score

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's basketball team placed six scorers in double figures while Breshay Johnson posted a double-double in a 70-point victory over non-conference foe Brewton-Parker, 122-52, Tuesday evening at Horne Arena.

The Lady Bearcats improved to 4-1. The Barons from Mount Vernon, Ga., fell to 3-6.

Lander was 10 points shy of its school record for points in a game, set last Nov. 25 in a 132-44 win over Allen University.

Breshay Johnson had an outstanding shooting night, making nine of 12 shots from the floor and nine of 10 from the free-throw line for a game-high 27 points. The sophomore forward also led all rebounders with 15 while blocking three shots.

Sannayyiah Johnson added 20 points for the Lady Bearcats, making seven of 12 shots including four of seven from behind the 3-point line.

Jada Wallace made eight of 10 shots from the floor and finished with 17 points while leading Lander with four steals.

Ty'Hesha Reynolds added 15 points for the Lady Bearcats, Bre Crum had 10 points and a game-high eight assists, and Ashleigh Zandi also had 10 points.

Lea Petit added eight points on four of four shooting while adding six rebounds as Lander had a huge 57-23 advantage on the boards.

The Lady Bearcats made 44 of 76 shots from the floor (58 percent), 25 of 29 free throws (86 percent) and nine of 21 from behind the arc (43 percent).

Keiwanna Patterson led Brewton-Parker with 18 points, Abbibeth Paulk added 12 points while leading the Barons with nine rebounds, and Natalia Adams paced the team with four assists.

Brewton-Parker made 20 of 62 shots (32 percent), 10 of 18 free throws (56 percent) and two of 12 from behind the arc (17 percent).

The Lady Bearcats trailed 4-0 and were tied at 6-all during the first three minutes of the game. But they closed the first quarter on a 22-3 run, getting balanced scoring led by Breshay Johnson's six points. Lander led 28-9 going into the second period.

After Reynolds scored six consecutive Lady Bearcats points, Sakezia Kelly scored to give the hosts 18 unanswered points going back to the first quarter. Kelly's fast-break layup off a Reynolds steal gave Lander a 36-9 lead with 8:29 until halftime.

Patterson's 3 ended the 18-0 run, but Brewton-Parker still trailed 36-12.

Sannayyiah Johnson's 3 extended the Lady Bearcat advantage to 51-19 at the 4:15 mark, their biggest lead (32 points) of the first half until Breshay Johnson's basket in the final seconds gave Lander a 34-point halftime lead, 61-27.

Kelly and Wallace converted three-point plays on consecutive possessions at the start of another big scoring run to extend the lead to 41 points, 74-33, with 6:15 to go in the third period.

Brewton-Parker went five minutes without a basket from the floor until Sydney Boyd's jumper in the paint with 2:43 left in the third made the score 84-37. That basket only interrupted Lander's 29-4 run over the last seven-plus minutes of the third as Wallace scored inside, Crum made two free throws, Breshay Johnson hit a layup and Sannayyiah Johnson nailed a 3 for a 93-38 lead. It was 93-40 going into the final quarter.

Breshay Johnson's jumper in the paint gave the Lady Bearcats a 100-44 lead with 6:25 left.

Mylea McKenith got into the scoring column with a three-point play off Wallace's steal for a 105-48 advantage at the 4:14 mark.

Petit scored twice in a 34-second span as the lead grew to 113-48 at the three-minute mark.

Ariel Parker and Ariel Sheares became Lander's 10th and 11th players to score in the game with baskets in the final 36 seconds, with Sheares ending the night with a 3.
