Box Score GREENWOOD - The Lander volleyball team rallied from two sets down Saturday to defeat Peach Belt Conference powerhouse Armstrong State, 3-2, for only the second time in program history at Horne Arena. Match scores were: 15-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 15-11.
Lander improves to 18-7 overall and 6-3 in the PBC, while Armstrong drops to 11-6, 7-2. The Bearcats, who trail the series, 2-35, last defeated the Pirates, 3-0, on Nov. 2, 2007.
The Bearcats' Kendall Korte posted a double-double with 25 kills and 10 digs, while All-PBC defensive specialist Julia Ferreira-Alves moved to the front row and tallied 10 kills to go along with 12 digs. Ali Kirk also had a double-double with 23 assists and 15 digs, while Sophia Perkins added 23 assists, and Mallory Taylor 12 digs. Lander also amassed 22 blocks with Angermeier tallying six, and Reyonia Whipple, Korte, Khiani Kelly and Ferreira-Alves with three each.
Armstrong was led by Raquel Kulak (12 kills), Raegan Grooms (10 kills, 11 digs), Kristi Vaughn (29 assists, 12 digs), Carley Eiken (13 assists), Brittany Hereth (18 digs), and Anna McGee (12 digs). Rachel Thompson chipped in five block assists for the Pirates.
Lander will next travel to USC Aiken for a 7 o'clock PBC match on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
