Nationally ranked and unbeaten Lander downs Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The nationally ranked and unbeaten Lander men's basketball team won its school-record 12th straight victory Saturday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated Flagler, 80-68, in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

Lander, which is ranked No. 16 in the D2SIDA national rankings and No. 25 in the NABC poll, improves to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the PBC, while Flagler drops to 5-5, 0-3.

Kiair Crouch scored 20 points to lead four Bearcats in double figures. Crouch connected on 7-of-11 shots from the floor and 5-of-7 free throws, while dishing off three assists and getting two steals. JR Washington added a double-double with 15 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and seven assists, while Mike Lee notched 14 points, and Tobiasz Hose 11 points.

Jerrell Oxendine led Flagler with a game-high 21 points, while Dennis Diaz and Lydell Manigo had 13 each and Matt Clark 11. Desmond Gibson grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Lander, which led 45-31 at halftime, was 29-of-66 from the floor (43.9 percent), including 7-of-15 from three-point line (46.7 percent), and 15-of-21 from the free throw line (71.4 percent). Lander also outrebounded the Saints, 41-40.

The Saints connected on 25-of-62 field goals (40.3 percent), including 6-of-20 threes (30 percent), and 12-of-22 foul shots (54.5 percent).

After Flagler scored the opening bucket and the two teams were tied at 2-, and 4-all, Lander went up 6-4 on a Hose layup and never trailed the rest of the game. The Bearcats biggest lead of the first half was 17 points when Marco Morales sank a three with 1:57 remaining to put Lander up 45-28.

The Saints battled back the second half and cut the margin to six points at 60-54 with 6:44 left to play, but the Bearcats went on a 19-7 run to build up an 18-point advantage at 79-61 with 1:18 left to play.
