Box Score 2 GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Lander volleyball set a school-record for the best start ever Saturday when the Bearcats improved to 8-0 on the season after defeating King College, 3-1, and Tusculum College, 3-0, at the Pioneer Classic. Both the 1999 and 2009 teams had 6-0 starts.
Lander opened the day with a 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-12 victory over King College, then downed host Tusculum, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19. The lost set against King was Lander's first of the season.
For Lander against King, Jessica Register (51 assists, 19 digs), Kaitlyn Harrison (17 digs, 10 kills), and Kendall Korte (18 digs, 10 kills) had double-doubles, while Tarryn Angermeier added 21 kills and Julia Ferreira-Alves 37 digs.
King was led by Summer Kremer (20 kills, 20 digs), Jordan Baty (13 kills), Olivia Underwood (49 assists, 15 digs), Payton Tipton (24 digs), and Casey Williams (20 digs).
Against Tusculum, Lander's Angermeier and Sydney Tracy had 12 and 10 kills respectively, Register totaled 29 assists, Ferreira-Alves 19 digs, Korte 15 digs and Harrison 11 digs.
Tusculum was led by Megan Hasse (14 kills), Rachel Garnett (11 kills), Hannah Berling (20 assists and 14 digs), and Moriah Jones (23 digs).
Lander will next host Southern Wesleyan in the Bearcats' home opener at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16.
