Lunde leads No. 3 Lander baseball past Trojans, 11-4

Box Score

GREENWOOD – Erik Lunde had two lead-off home runs Wednesday night and the No. 3-ranked Lander baseball team overcame a season-high five errors to claim its sixth straight win in an 11-4 non-conference victory over Anderson at Dolny Stadium.

Lander improves to 36-6, while Anderson drops to 18-27.

The Bearcats' Ryan Jones (8-0) remained unbeaten on the season with five strikeouts, two walks and two unearned runs on six hits in seven innings.

Anderson's Mitchell Cooksey (0-3) suffered the loss, walking one and allowing three earned runs on two hits in two innings.

The Trojans took advantage of three Lander miscues in the first inning and jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Kyle Bailey reached on the first error and scored on the third.

Lander went ahead 2-1 in the third when Thomas Bess, who reached when he was hit by a pitch, scored on Patrick Grady's groundout, and Lunde, who doubled, went home on a Connor Lewis groundout.

Colby Painter stretched the lead to 3-1 for Lander in the fourth after scoring on Chris Hyatt's groundout.

Lunde's lead-off home run over the right wall in the fifth put the Bearcats up 4-1, then Grady scored on Thomas Berry's double off the right centerfield wall. With bases loaded and no outs, Painter's two-RBI single to right field plated Berry and Lewis for a 7-1 advantage.

Anderson cut the margin to 7-2 in the sixth after Paul Como scored on the Bearcats' fifth error of the game, then added two more runs in the eighth on RBI singles by LJ Newman and David Jones.

The Bearcats came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to increase their lead to 11-4. Lunde led off with his second homer of the game, then, with bases loaded, Lewis went home on Painter's sacrifice fly, and Jake Bolena doubled in Weston Lawing and Berry.

For Lander, Lunde went 4-for-5, while Lewis and Painter collected two hits apiece. Newman had two hits for the Trojans.
