GREENWOOD – The No. 4-ranked Lander baseball team took advantage of two errors in the seventh inning to defeat Mount Olive, 5-2, Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Dolny Stadium.

Lander improves to 17-2 overall, while Mount Olive drops to 12-7.

Kyle Tate (2-0) earned the win on the mound in one-third of an inning. The Trojans Derek Justice (2-1) took the loss with six strikeouts, three walks and two earned runs on six hits in 6.2 innings.

The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Thomas Berry's sacrifice fly sent Erik Lunde home.

Mount Olive tied it at 1-all on Jay Gonzalez's RBI single that plated Cody Britt.

Lander regained the lead at 2-1 in the sixth after Graham Ramos doubled and later scored on Austin's Dunn's RBI single.

Lunde and Grady, who both reached on throwing errors to first base in the seventh inning, scored on Ramos' RBI single to put Lander up 4-1.

The Trojans trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the eighth on Chase Edward's RBI single to left field.

The Bearcats came back in the bottom of the eighth to up the score to 5-2 when Thomas Bess scored from first on Lunde's RBI double to deep left field.

For Lander, Lunde, Connor Lewis and Ramos had two hits each.

Mount Olive's Jay Gonzalez led the Trojans with two hits.
