GREENWOOD - JR Washington scored a game-high 29 points and led four Lander players in double figures Saturday afternoon as the Bearcats' men's basketball team fell to Athletes in Action, 93-91, in an exhibition game in Horne Arena.
Washington, who also dished off seven assists, connected on 9-of-24 field goals, including 4-of-13 threes, and 7-of-10 free throws. Ricardo Martin and Tobiasz Hose both added double-doubles. Hose netted 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Martin had 16 points and 10 boards. Scott Elder chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds.
Mike Rogers led Athletes in Action with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Robert Williams had 15 points, Donald Waughn 14 points and Dexter Moore 13 points.
Lander connected on 31-of-75 field goals (41.3 percent), including 9-of-25 three pointers (36 percent). The Bearcats also sank 20-of-27 free throws (74.1 percent).
Athletes in Action, which led at halftime, 44-41, was 27-of-57 from the field (47.4 percent), including 8-of-24 threes (33.3 percent), and 31-of-41 from the foul line (75.6 percent). Athletes in Action outrebounded Lander, 46-36.
